Official Word from NP

Post by Charlie251 »

Gents,

I just got off the phone with Jim.

This is the deal.

At the current time, NaturalPoint does not know how to fix the centering problem. There are actual mutliple issues with the way the TrackIR commands are programmed in the game itself. NP cannot fix this, obviously, as it is in the code itself.

UBISoft is supposedly addressing the issue in the first patch. This is due in 2 to 3 weeks. NaturalPoint is going to continue working on getting the TrackIR2 backlog taken care of so their customers do not have to wait any longer to get their unit.

If UBISoft does not fix the issue in the first patch, NaturalPoint will devote the time and energy required to figure out a way to fix the problem on their end.

Let me make this clear though: NP coming up with a solution is NOT the prefered solution! They are unable to access the code inside of Lock On. Therefore, whatever they do will be a "wrench in the gears" kind of fix. While your TrackIR will center properly, the interactions between the TrackIR and the game software itself will be very messed up.

Because of this, NaturalPoint has decided to wait the few weeks for UBI to fix the issue on their end to ensure that TrackIR is fixed PROPERLY, in the code as it should be.

I also know that Jim will be in contect with them personally to ensure that all of our (customers) concerns are expressed to them and that they are given any assistance needed from NaturalPoint to make it all happen.

I know it sucks that we will be waiting the 2 to 3 weeks for the UBI patch. But the honest truth is that we would be waiting that long for a NaturalPoint fix because they would have to find a way to fix it. And, trust me, it will be harder, and take longer, for NaturalPoint to find a solution to this problem than it will for UBI to do so.

Hang in there. Things are in the works to get fixed. We just have to be patient and allow the developers the time needed to correct the problem and get the fix to us.

If you have any further questions on the matter, feel free to post and ask.

Somehow I think there 2-3 week patch idea is going to go out of the window with the amount of bugs showing up in this game, I would say maybe well be lucky to see a patch before Xmas buts here's hopeing

Im glad to see NP take there time on this one and get there units out instead of jumping in trying to fix UBI promblem. Good luck Jim get thos TIR2's out the door .

thanks for the info... the only worrying thing is that you don't sound convinced that it actually will be fixed in the patch

to Hotdognz: Some of the bugs must have been known to ED when Lomac went gold. They just had to get it out at some point. My point is that they probably started working on the patch before it hit the streets, so its not unrealistic to get the first patch in 2-3 weeks. The second patch however.....

I beleive you are correct that they were working on the patch before it even hit the shelves. Just a hunch on my part though.

As for not sounding convinced, I did not want to get everybody all warm and fuzzy only to have UBI cut our feet off next month.

From past examples, UBI has a hard time fixing things. I will not begin to talk about why this could be.

What kills me is that they apparently have no beta testers with a TrackIR that caught this problem. I noticed it a few minutes after I got the beta installed for the first time.

My guess, this is only a guess of course, is that when they went to fix the FOV problem, which they didn't, they messed up the centering as well. So, oh well!

I do not mean to sound critical of the developers. Crud happens sometimes. I just wish that measures were taken a year ago when I brought it up to them; this being the fact that they had no one knowledgable on the TrackIR on their beta (alpha at the time) team. We live and learn.

Good news though... Jim sent Carl a TrackIR2. So now ED has a person with a TrackIR who can ensure everything is working perfect.

Cool Stormin has a TrackIR 2, couldnt think of anyone more deserving than him with all the crap he has to wade through at the UBI Lockon forum .

Must ask him how he likes it at somepoint when LOCKON is fixed.

For what it's worth, after the initial centering @ my lap I am able to move the view with my mouse to somewhere near the proper location then re-center and it works properly for me for the rest of the time I'm in the game.
