OK so I ve got it reformatted and reinstalled. Works fine as long as I'm no more than 12 to 15 inches from it.
I have a 19 inch monitor and I'd like to set back from it and relax.
I search forum and found them saying bigger dot, bigger pattern, and a led device.
Well has ahy one found a better reflective source other than this tape.
I guess I could build the led thing but seems like a bit of trouble and more clutter.
Surely one of those guys that have built a cockpit has one of these and sits a ways from it.
Although if i had room id build one and mount it right above my head or behind it and change its degrees in the software to what ever it took othe than [ 0 ] but I dont have the room for it. [wife would kick me out too lol]
The demo video on top of this page looks like he's a bit further away than i can sit, can someone answer how hes set up, how much dot and where is it placed. It wold be nice to have some more demo pics on setup instead of words.
Thanks all
Toad
ROFLMAO I just clicked on video and they gave me a $15.00 discount. I"M NOT GOING TO BUY TWO! just my luck day late dollar short!

Sensitivity
Re: Sensitivity
Mad_Toad maybe I can help as you should be able to sit futher back, im sitting at 2.5 feet from my unit and it works fine, ok dots size is important and if you look in this thread you will see a picture of my dot config at the bottom pic, if you follow the same pattern you should have no trouble sitting futher back
http://forums.naturalpoint.com/cgi-bin/ ... 8;t=000029
Next I have a Qs is you unit sitting on top of your moniter, if it is fine thats a good place for it, others have put it below there moniter and its working fine there, just remember to make sure you go to the Tracking tab page in the TIR softwear and using your dots sit back to where you want to be and make sure the Camera View is tracking you dots and that the green box around the yellow dot is in the center of the screen. Thats all you should see on there if there are any other boxes with dots in them then the unit is tracking other light souces which it shouldnt be.
let me know how you get on.

Thanks Hotdognz
I'll make a bigger dot or do your clover leaf thing. I'll have to get an old pair of glass frames or something to put them on. I've got some reflective tape here at work we put on Semi trailers it real shiny I'll try it aswell. I'll let ya know how it works, and post it. 2 1/2 foot would help but 3 1/2 would be better I have rudder pedals, and I'm not at a desk so my legs get bunched up. I'm infront of a cabinet, I'd have to take a pic to explain LOL
I have it setting on top of monitor, I tried below but top seems smoother. I have noticed this though, It works alot better in a room with sunlight in it (not direct light just a north window in room sun is on south side of house) than it does in a dark room no lights, sort of a bugger, since most to all my flying is done in the middle of the night when family is sleeping. I dont understand that, I would think it would do just the opposite.
Thanks Toad

Re: Sensitivity
Toad 3.5 feet should be fine aswell, im sure there are plenty of people with rudder peddles that are like you and sit away from the desk, there is a point though that you can be too far away and some people have solved that but putting there TIR unit on some sort of extension unit out from the moniter so it looks like a head unit of the DR Who Darlecks if you know what i mean.
As for working better in a sunlit room, well that is strange as it should work better in a darker room with a bit of light, remember the little dots have to reflect some light back to the LED in the TIR unit, anyway most strange.
Keep us informed

Re: Sensitivity
Actually, the best way I've found after a lot of experimentation is to use a baseball cap with an extender boom off the brim. My dot is about a half-inch round mounted on a verticle cylindar (half-inch diameter) that still shows a proper signal to the receiver when moving side-to-side.
I sit back in my chair from my 21" monitor about 2-3 feet and it tracks like a dream. I mean it is absolutely perfect now with a custom curved deadzone.
I would never just stick a dot on glasses because you get only a small portion of the sweep you do with a boom mount. With the glasses you have to compensate by raising your acceleration (speed) and that in turn loses precision although some people are quite happy with that.
The idea is to:
1) Be sitting comfortably.
2) Get as much throw as possible by having the dot within about 24" of the receiver for maximum precision and lower accelleration.
3) have a 1/2" dot mounted on a cylindrical surface to maximize it's aspect when your head is at farthest left/right sweep.
4) Set your aspect ratio and filtering so that the dot tracks perfectly RIGHT TO THE EDGES of the Motion screen. If you have a small throw the dot moves only a few inches in the middle of the screen and that means you are making up with acceleration (or have to sit closer to the screen).
5) Set your deadzone so that it gradually speeds up the farther from centre you go. This keeps your view from being 'bouncy' when looking forward or just off centre. When checking six or looking side cockpit you can sacrifice precision with acceleration so you don't break your neck.
I know people use a variety of different methods, for different reasons, but until we get a TIR with precision on par with newer optical mice it is most important to have the throw as close to 1:1 as possible without losing tracking (or being too unwieldly) for getting the absolute most out of it.
I'll post pics if you want but I warn you that it isn't pretty. It's not a fashion statement though and I can finally say that TIR and FB is so good I never have to pause/re-center or even remember I'm wearing it.

Re: Sensitivity
Ok Guys this is what I've done.
It works great too, I built a profile exactly like it says in manual, then applied a diamond shaped piece of DOT approved reflective tape on a pair of cheap polarized fishing glasses I had laying around. I can set any where from 1 18 inches to not sure but when I'm kicked back relaxed it measures 40 inches. Im sure a little tweeking on dead zone like ya say will help some and head movement because the further back you are the more turn it needs it seems. But when I'm in a fight I sit closer anyway and it works smooth and quick enough. But on a Bomber run sitting back is prefered. Oh and the polized glasse seem to take some eyestrain away and the colors are more vivid.
