Tracking screen reflector in center important
Tracking screen reflector in center important
This may be dumb but I have some windows behind me that messes things up. Now is it important to have the reflector in the middle or doesnt it matter as long it can track all your head movements left/right/up and down?
Re: Tracking screen reflector in center important
You do not have it centered as long as it can track all of your movements. If you're like me and squirm around a lot, you will want to have the "center view" key easily accessible. I map mine to a button on the joystick.

So the TrackIR tracks equally good in the full spectrum it can read from? Yes that center button is invaluable though I have found a setup that I can run FS 2004 without adjusting much harder in IL 2 where you need to dodge bullets and everything
Re: Tracking screen reflector in center important
It's best to have the dot in the centre of the tracking screen. Ideally the dot will make the full use of the whole screen when you turn your head to the maximum amounts horizontally and vertically that you would while playing. If it only covers a small portion of the screen then you are not really utilizing the full resolution that the device is capable of and you will need to compensate by adding more speed (and sacrifice precision).
This is why I like to have the dot on an extension so that when I sweep my head from edge to edge it actually covers the better part of the receiver's viewing area (tracking screen) and gives the most precision.
However, it isn't absolutely necessary, as long as the dot stays on the screen when you move to your maximum vert/horiz sweep and doesn't change colour.
In my case it's necessary for my TIR receiver to be on top of the monitor which is already up quite high but luckily I can adjust my chair height to keep it reasonably level.

Okay so you find it better to use the trackhat cap the right way then . I tried it and I did make better use of the spectrum.
btw if I use your setup are you using the trackhat?

Re: Tracking screen reflector in center important
Well, since I play on comms I just have an extension made up of straws (lightweight and rigid) off the top of the headphones putting the dot at about 18" from the IR receiver which also gives it a longer throw. The dot cluster is on an upright cylindar (another small piece of straw) so that it still shows a relatively circular aspect and dot size when looking to one side.
A sphere would probably work a bit better but with a couple dots on the bottom and less distance needed to look vertically in a cockpit it works pretty well.
TIR 3 is a lot more precise than the older versions to the point like it feels like a laser pointer for viewing as long as your game framerates are high enough (in FB anyway).
Hehe, it's kind of funny in a way that the CPU is more of the limiting factor than the input device.

Personally I use the trackcap. But I will have to find a similar solution like yours for next summer when its too hot to wear a cap inside.

I'll post one for you when I get the chance. It might not be the height of fashion but then again I don't play with an audience around either, besides it's function that counts.
Re: Tracking screen reflector in center important
Yes please do but having a bigger reflector dont you loose resolution by that? Isnt the smaller reflector the better as long as it still can track?
