Need Help Deciding...

Post by kasper »

I have been thinking lately, and ive come to the conclusion that i want to get a trackir. Im wondering if there is a notable difference between the pro and the standard versions.
I know that the pro has 140 fps, and i have no problem with paying $140 for something if i know there is going to be a certain advantage over the other one. But i would much rather pay $100, not because im a cheapskate, but because i could get it sooner.

I would recomend going for the pro. The extra capture speed will come into it's own if you get the Vector to go with it.

I would go so far as to recomend getting the Vector at the same time as the TIR becaues of the benefits of using it. TIR when it is tracking one dot can be a bit loose on it's tracking, for example if you lean (not rotate) your head to the left the ingame view will rotate to the left, so even small movements side ways can cause unwanted rotation.

The full 6DoF in supported games can be a real benifit. Imagine that you have a tight fit in a driving game that supports 6DoF (Vector) you can look up and over the front to see the edge of your car and the gap to avoid a collision.

Even if a game does not support 6DoF but does support TIR then you will find that your view will be more stable than with out the Vector. The TIR camera and software will internally use the data generated with the Vector and give cleaner data to the game. Take the first example with the lean, with out you have rotation but with the Vector the lean will not be used (in non 6DoF games) there for less unwanted movement.

I hope this helps because the extra scanning speed does give smoother tracking especially with the vector and I would recomend getting both the TIR and Vector.

I agree with the above fully. I had some tracking and centering difficulties just using the dot. It appears there are some that do. In my humble opinion the vector expansion should come with the trackIR Pro...but it doesn't and I would also recommend getting it. It will add some cool views to fs9 and it will add a great degree of stability to the tracking of the device itself. Also a lot of centering problems will dissapear as well. All in all once you get it working..you won't want to fly without it..and you'll wonder how you ever did after a short time!!!
