5.5.1 - Star Citizen - Recenter failes to function

Post by migtin688 »

Star Citizen is the only software I use the head tracking for so I am limited on what I can test. I have bound Alt + F12 to recenter. The command in Star Citizen to turn chat on anf off is just F12. Starting with 5.5.1 (5.5.0 didn't recognize the game at all), Pressing ALT+F12 turned off chat and didn't recenter the tracker. I down graded back down to 5.4.2 and works as expected. Is this the correct term?--> Perhaps the TrackIR is no longer hooking properly into Star Citizen for this patch as it does with the 5.4.2?

I did verify that there is no keybind, inside Star Citizen, that is looking for ALT+F12, just TrackIR.

What works - I can go to the TrackIR screen and press ALT-F12 and it recenters, I can click the button on the window and it recenters. 5.5.1 works fine as I can tell outside of Star Citizen.

Hey Migtin,
Can I have you double check a few things with 5.5.1? There's a version of Visual C++ Redistributable that needs to be the most recent version, you can grab that here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/w ... le-version
Double check and make sure the game doesn't need any updates.
Finally, try rerunning the TrackIR installer and using the "repair" on the TrackIR installation process.

I installed 5.5.2. I ran the Visual C++ installer and it asked if I wanted to repair which I did. So that was already installed. I will now test it and then if it fails will attempt a repair. I cannot launch Star Citizen unless I am using the most recent files so SC should always be up to date.

New version doesn't work either for recentering. I MUST have TrackIR as the focus window in order to center. Version 5.4.2 continues to work

It sounds like you’ve identified an issue with TrackIR's integration with Star Citizen after updating to version 5.5.1. Based on your description, it seems like the problem might be that the TrackIR software isn't hooking properly into Star Citizen in this patch, unlike how it worked in version 5.4.2.

Good. Based on the nature of speed for these messages, I try to put in all the data I think might come in handy to a software developer. There is a second module that I tell it to install all to the SSD from the 5.4.2 installer. I don't recall any of the new ones asking for it to be installed.

Hi everyone,

Please try the following steps

1) Save a copy of this TrackIR 5 folder to some other folder in file explorer: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5"

2) Now, delete the TrackIR 5 folder inside of AppData.

3) Then, if you haven't installed 5.5.2 yet go ahead and install 5.5.2. If 5.5.2 is already installed then re-install or run a repair install for TrackIR 5.5.2. This will rebuild the AppData folder and rebuild any necessary files for running TIR successfully with games.

4) Launch TIR and initiate the "Games List Update" which will prompt you to relaunch TIR.

Please let us know if this solves the issue with TIR and Star Citizen.

Note, 'Step 1)' is intended to back up any custom settings you may have applied which are part of these files:
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles"
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\ProfileMap.dat"
"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Settings.xml"

If there are any custom settings you want to retain like profiles, camera settings, or profile-to-title settings then you will want to replace the default files with your custom files in those paths in AppData. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about any of this.

I followed you directions. I uninstalled TIR 5.4.2. I also unstalled a left over file from 5.5.2 (TrackIR - OptiTrack).
Deleted all files for all places even a DLL file 5.4.2 installed to e:\MODULE\ folder.
Installed TIR 5.5.2. When I ran it, I was not prompted to update the games list. I did it anyway and was not prompted to restart TIR 5.5.2.
I copied my profile back over to TIR and made it exclusive and re mapped ALT+F12 to recenter. I disabled the other ones. ALT+F12 has all check marks picked. - Enable / Toggle / Trap. I tested and it centered correctly. I opened the Star Citizen launcher and while focus was on that window (or any other window), ALT-F12 would no longer center TIR. It only works if TIR is the activly selected window.

Aummary - TIR 5.5.0 - 5.5.2 failes to recenter when window focus is on another window like notpad. or chrome.

Awaiting further guidance, TIR 5.4.2 continues to work as it should no matter which wondow is focused.

Hello migtin688,

Did you try rerunning the installer for 5.5.2 after you found this error?

Kind Regards,
