inverse image

Hi, I have an application that I need to work the wrong way round - ie the object to track would be dark and the surrounding area would be IR reflective.
Is there any way to do this other than retrieve the image data from the camera and work on it in my code?
I hope you can help because this is for quite a large number of systems and I dont fancy having to reinvent the wheel and manufacture my own camera system when theres one out there thats almost perfect already!

Any chance you are tracking dark pupils?
