Well after lavish praise from so many I relented I got this gizzmo but immediate impressions are not good. Everything loads up OK but the FS9 VC display flickers and jumps all over the place in response to head movements - I expected smooth movements as seen in the promo videos. Is there something I have missed in setting this thing up? Grateful for any suggestions.

New install and immediate hassles with FS9
Re: New install and immediate hassles with FS9
1 - Are you running Active camera, if so the following link has instructions to resolve the issue.
http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/03- ... -2004.html
2 - What type of add-ons are you using?
3 - Check your tracking screen, withing the TrackIR software, do you see more than 3 colored objects on the screen? (either red or green)

Thanks.
A few things I managed to figure out for myself, yes AC is a factor but the advice in the link is only partially helpful, you have to disable all three options that have to do with ground roll, head latency and turbulence. I also found I had to disable the roll axis and slow things down and have small null zone for all axes. I have also had a couple of instances all ready where TIR looses the plot, like it wouldn't load into FS2004 - needed a PC reboot then OK. However today the thing just stopped working all together no lights no nothing. Got it going again by unplugging it and movint to another USB port - windows piked it up and reinstalled TIR. Have now disabled the powersaving measues on my USB hubs. This has been an expensive addon and at this stage I am yet to be convinced about the immersion factor others enthrall about - eg I am finding that it still not possible to fly soley from the VC. Even with the axis acceleration slowed down I still get tearing in the display like when I pan quickly with the CH yoke hat switch which is hard on the eyes. Also you recommend stting 30FPS as minimum but with addons like the PMDG 747 or the LDS 767 there is no way 30 FPS can be consistently achieved in FS2004 (15 - 20 at most) and goodness knows what things will be like in FSX with these aircraft.
