Trackir from behind (projector)

Post by drgonzo »

hi guys,

i have read the topics about trackir and projector.
i brang the trackir behind me in position (same height then hat)
Problem: if i look up, trackir connection will be bad (most time connection breaks) so i think its because the angle from reflector to trackir doesn't macht. i think the angle of cap (if you were revers) isn't the best. Can i "pimp" my reflectors above and below of the sensors (some reflector stickers so that angle is okay?)
please help me, trackir ist nice device but i cannot use it really good at the moment (Sensors are looking down)

I would try adjusting the location of the camera, and making sure it is far enough away to that the reflectors stay within the field of view.

Same on this end.
Its the light from the screen that is causing your troubles
just as if you had a bright window or lamp behind you.

@ Vincent...Don't take this the wrong way, its hard to convey emotions in chat just razing ya a bit
But have you ever even tried track IR with a projector??
I realize that your trying to help but I have found if you don't know something its best to just say "I don't know, but I will find out and get back to you."
Instead of just guessing with out any hands on experience.
Perhaps you should talk with someone in your company that can help us out please.
your answers are at best incomplete.

I use a rear projector and have no problems. My projector is mounted near the ceilingm throwing the image across and downwards over my head and I simply keep the TrackIR sensor level with my head, slightly to one side and pointing down away from the projector. Works perfectly.

Actually, I have used the TrackIR with a projector setup on several occasions. Part of the issue is that not everyones setup is the same, and each can require different solutions.

For example, if the projector is mounted far enough above you, then you can have the TrackIR mount to the front, on some setups the projector is setup to low so the TrackIR sees it as a heat source hence having to mount the unit behind you. This is just an example of the myriad ways that the unit can be mounted in multiple home theatre setups.
