New FS, new PC, same problems!

Post by Gudgey »

Hi,

FSX arrived today and installed without a problem, so I downloaded and installed the new Version 4.1.029 alpha 3
drivers, and plugged in the TrackIR. I did some tests with the Heads and the Tracking screens and the unit saw the three points ok, but they needed centreing, so I pressed F9.
Oh no , here we go again!
F9 and F12 did not do anything, but I started up FSX anyway hoping, just maybe, I'd see the blue light.
No blue light, and current game reads None!
The software is once again not able to see FSX on startup. When this happened in FS9 it was a problem with the key mapping, as F9 and F12 were already in use, and clearing them fixed the problem.
I've done the same in FSX but it didn't work this time.
Any other suggestions?

Are any of you using an anti virus program?

Pop-up blocker software?

Firewall software?

What type of internet connection are you using?

Hi Vincent,

I think I've found the problem.
Last night when I was trying to post the first message, I was getting an error which, I didn't make note of, but was stopping me from posting.
Now, I use Zone Alarm Pro, and I know that the privacy settings can cause problems with some websites, and rather than lower the settings I just closed down the program.
With the firewall disabled I tried to post again and the message posted ok, but at the same time I heard the hardrive being accessed which, I thought was strange. As well as having IE open I also had the TrackIR software, and FSX running, and at this point I looked up to see the blue light illuminated on the unit. The hardrive activity was FSX trying to keep up with my head movements!
TrackIR was working
So, it seems I have to start with Zone Alarm closed which, I am not all that keen on, as I use the real weather option with continual updates, and I don't like being coonected to the Web without it. But after testing today it looks like once TrackIR can 'see' FSX I can load up Zone Alarm, a bit inconvenient but something I can live with!

Regards,

Gudgey.

O of the things we are looking at is the TCP/IP stack which would be controlled by Zone Alarm. Thanks for the update.
