No blue light in FSX

Post by Speed2 »

It used to work and then I did a reinstall of xp and fsx and track ir (29a3) and I dont get a blue light in fsx. Tracking in the trackir tests works fine.

Could it be something to do with the latest directx updates which I applied after installing xp? Directx has some brand new updates (beyond 9c vanilla) so I'm not talking a standard dx9 install.

I have added tir4 and fsx to firewall exceptions and run game update.

Shouldn't be an issue, I have seen installs of FSX get some corruption during the install which has prevented the TrackIR from working in general.

Thanks for your super fast reply but my problem appears to be more complicated than a bad install.

Based on your advice I tried a repair...no go...migrated from raid to non-raid...no go....another repair....no go....uninstall and reinstall track ir...no go.

I am also unable to get the FSEconomy client working which uses the simconnect api...so I'm thinking they are related problems.

I just tried go flights new driver and I could not get that to work either. So I'm zero out of 3 for external apps now.

Well, then it sounds like an issue with simconnect. If you have the deluxe version of FSX, you can do a reinstall of just simconnect w/ the SDK information.

If TrackIR uses simconnect then that sounds like the source of the issue.

I installed the SDK and then installed the simconnect client. Still nothing. I uninstalled it from add/remove programs and reinstalled simconnect and still didnt work.

Unless you have any other suggestions I think I am going to have to start over and this time install xp, then trackir, then fsx and check it before any patches or drivers, and if it works, check it after each patch and driver.

I might try some bios settings first, I have game ports and serial ports and the like disabled there I think, maybe that has some effect on some pseudo com port or something.

BIOS didnt help...guess Ill have to try the long way.

An XP install, then FSX install, then radeon drivers, then trackir install has worked and I have the blue light and am fully functional. I will keep checking it (and making drive image backups) as I get xp and fsx up to speed to see if anything breaks it.

Thankyou for having the best support anywhere and having fsx drivers out before anyone else.

I was forced to upgrade from trackir2 to trackir4 to use it in fsx but in retrospect I am very glad I did and find the trackir4 10 times better than the old one. I cant fly without it.

So far I have found that the issue occurs after installing .NET Framework 2.0 (tested it twice to be sure).

The problem is not fixed by a restore of the flight simulator install drive.

The problem is fixed by a restore of the system drive.

So it is something that .NET does to files on the system drive (I think during reboot after .NET install).

OMFG I found the issue!!!

After yet another XP and FSX reinstall and repair it wasnt working straight away. I was tearing my hair out and with the help of FSUIPC logging could confirm that simconnect would not start.

It was simconnect.cfg file in the root My Documents (which for me is my D drive). I deleted that simple 3 line text file that had been sitting there unchanged for weeks through countless installs and now everything works.

I can't believe I've spent days of installs and testing over that one little file.
