TrackIR3 no longer working with FSX

Post by horrido »

Hi,
I've been using trackIR3 with flight Simulator X and was very satisfied with it. Unfortunately, I had to reinstall WindowsXP and now, TrackIR is no longer working with FSX. It is perfectly working with other games titles like IL2/Forgotten Battles and Armed Assault though. The trackIR unit seems to work perfectly (blue LED showing up when I launch FSX, but I've no movement in the virtual cockpit when I move my head).
I've tried all the solutions I could find in this forum, but with no succes (including trying all theses drivers versions: 4.1.029.alpha3;4.1.029.beta4;4.1.029.final;4.1.030.beta2).
I've also tried the trick to reinstall simconnect by deleting the folder in WINDOWS/WinSxS/ and repairing the FSX install, but it was no good either.
Also, I notice something strange when I install the drivers: if I install the drivers with trackIR unplugged (as told in the installation instructions), the trackIR program does not recognise the hardware when I plug it in the USB port - I have the message "no device found". In order to have trackIR recognised, I have to install the drivers with the trackIR unit plugged in the USB port. Also I can notice that there are two entries in the registry for TrackIR that cannot be deleted when I try to clean the registry after uninstalling the drivers. I suppose that this is part of the problem, because when I plug the trackIR unit in the USB port, the message "new hardware found: trackIR3" appears, but is immediately followed by an other message saying "unrecognised USB hardware" and the windowsXP pop-up asking me the path for the drivers appears.
I hope to be able to use TrackIR with FSX, has it is a great device, and FSX lost a lot without it.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Hub"(s) that show and turn off the power saving feature that turn those ports off when idle. Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Are you using any firewall software?

Yes, I'm plugging the device directly to the system, and I'm not using a hub.
What do you mean by "Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?".
I've already tried to turn off the power save feature for the USB port where the TrackIR unit is plugged, but this didn't help; trackIR is still not working in FSX.
Yes, I'm using a firewall and antivirus software (McAfee Antivirus and firewall). I tried to disable it to see if it may cause TrackIR not to function properly, but even with the firewall disabled, the problem is still there. Of course, TrackIR and FSX are granted total access by the firewall (TrackIR.exe and FSX.exe are granted in and out access to the internet)
I've noticed in an other thread that there is an utility to clean the registry from previous install of the Naturalpoint software: NPRegFix.exe ; shall I use it an try to reinstall the drivers after that?

If you are getting the blue light activating on the TrackIR unit, when starting FSX, then the TrackIR is working properly. At that point it is more than likely the firewall software conflictling with FSX.

Try uninstalling the firewall software, for testing purposes, and see if FSX works then.
