TrackIR 4 -- Not Tracking

Post by baker »

Hi there,

I have succesfully installed and used trackIR 4 on my current PC earlier this year, but then it stopped working/tracking.

So now as i try to use it the faint red light comes on with the flahing blue light. The STATUS says: 'no data', or i can use the F9 key to change the STATUS to 'diabled'

The software appears to work fine, as it installs easily and my windows XP device manager recognizes the input.

But the view options are not responding (ie: guages do not move, heads do not move and the tracking screen is completley blank)

When i activate the software the light turns green for about a second then goes back to the faint red with flashing blue.

I have tried:
Reinstalling
Reformatting
Swithcing USB ports
Updating software
Troubleshooting
FAQ's
Forum searches

I purchased the item late last year or perhaps early this year it was somewhere between NOV '06 and FEB '07 i came across this problem around 4-6 months ago and gave up on it then but am now seeking resolution.

If you need the install log i can send that or any other info, the device has never been violently knocked to my knowledge and there is no problems with the range or line of sight i can see.

Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

I have found a thread posted by Jondeejay HERE which is the exact problem im having. I have read through all replies and have tried everyting you suggested (ie: USB power saver unchecked in device manger) and everyting else i mentioned in the first post.

I can switch the usb hub whilst the software is running and it results in the same as Jondeejay (ie: green light remains on, but still; no data)

If i were to take a screenshot of the tracking window it would look the same as his.

Could you please tell me if you were able to walk him through the solution of if the device is infact defective.

For 270.00AU$ i only used this device a handful of times, it was working brilliantly when it was working. I should not have thrown out the packaging as i beleive thats where the serial number was... I bought it through and online shop (Scorptec) and payed by credit i believe so i should be able to track the receipt number...

Please email support with the following info........

What is the Serial # of the device?
It should be located on the end of the cable, near the USB plug, or on the underside of the device.

Could you send us a copy of the Setupapi.log file?
It should be located in the C:\Windows folder

Have you tried the device on another system?

Are you plugging in directly to the system, or are you using a hub?

Have you tried isolating the device on the USB ports?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Could you attach a screen shot of your Device Manager (showing USB), and tracking screen (TrackIR software -> View -> Tracking)?

To make Print Screen work, you must save an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then paste it into a document where it can be printed.

Windows Help: Print Screen

To do this, follow this procedure:

1. Maximize the window you'd like to capture.
2. To copy/capture the current window, hold down ALT + Print Scrn at the same time. To capture the entire screen, just press Print Scrn alone.
3. Open a new document in MS Paint, MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop.
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time.
5. Save the document as a .JPG or .JPEG file and send it in.
