Vista Ultimate 32 Bit with Vista SP1 = No TrackIR

Post by Geoffman »

I've just installed Vista SP1 and now my trackIR 4 does not work.

I have tried both 4.0.030 Final B and 4.1.034 beta2. When I run the trackIR software nothing happens and no trackir.exe is running when I check running running precesses in the task manager. When I run the mouse emulation software I get the message "Unabled to Initialize TrackIR".

On the hardware no changes occur, the tracking red LEDs do not turn on, and the blue LED on the bottom of the unit continues to flash every 6 seconds or so. I have tried moving the hardware to different USB ports with no result.

The device is enabled and appears to be ok when I check the device manager. I have tried running the application software as an administrator and as a normal user with no luck, and it ran fine before Vista SP1 was installed.

Note my Vista is 32bit Ultimate.

Any help most appreciated!

In the following folder location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles, what is the file size for each profile?

Combat_Flight.xml = 1,882 bytes
Flight.xml = 1,868 bytes
Racing.xml = 1,724 bytes

All file sizes read by right clicking on the file and selecting properties.

Vincent, can I ask why you want to know the profile sizes, for as I indicated in my first post even when I run the mouse emulator (TIRMouse.exe), I have a problem, it reports "Unabled to Initialize TrackIR". As far as I can see the mouse emulator program doesn't use any profiles?

Since my original post I have tried deinstalling and reinstalling both 4.0.030 Final B and 4.1.034 beta2 with no joy.

The method used was unplug Hardware -> reboot -> install software -> reboot -> plug in hardware. When plugging in the hardware Vista recognises the hardware and installs it, it appears just fine in device manager, but both the Mouse Emulation and TrackIR software don't run.

There should also be a default profile.......

When you reinstalled, did you delete the naturalpoint folder after uninstalling?

No, no default profile at all.

After I got home this afternoon I made a copy of Flight.xml and relabled it Default.xml. It made no difference, both TrackIR.exe and TIRMouse.exe still don't run. TIRMouse.exe still displays "Unabled to initialize TrackIR.".

Since it didn't work I deleted the Default.xml file I created by copying Flight.xml.

Hope this gives you some more fodder for my problem. :)

Well there is some corruption in the software installed, as restarting the TrackIR sofftware should create a default profile, if there isn't one.

Try uninstalling the software again, deleting the NaturalPoint folder, then reinstalling with the laatest build.
