PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
I'm disabled and have used Naturalpoint since it first became available, long before SmartNAV. I've had several PC's during this time, all without issues. I recently got a new PC to play the newer games being released such as World of Warcraft,Battle for Middle Earth,Soldiers,Warhammer, etc. When I try to play any game using naturalpoint or the new SmartNAV I just bought other than World of Warcraft my PC completely locks up and I must hold the power button down for it to shut down. World of Warcraft works fine. Sometimes a continuous thump, thump, thump sound comes from my speakers when my PC locks up. My PC also locks up sometimes while using my USB TV Tuner. My PC only does it while the Naturalpoint or SmartNAV software is running. Please help!

Hi, try to unistall the software, then try to clean your registry (there are some software to helpyou), reboot and the re install the software. GOOD LUCk

Hello,
Are you plugging the SmartNAV unit into a hub or directly into the computer?
The unit will work best if it is plugged directly onto the computer.

Re: PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
Also, what is the serial number of your unit(s) and what version of the software are you running.
Re: PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
I use a 6ft USB extension cable and I have version 3.2 with the new Smartnav. I was using version 2.1 with my old unit. I'll check the serial number.
Re: PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
I would like to have you try using our TrackIR gaming software and mouse emulation in the games you are mentioning that are crashing.
The link to the TrackIR software is:
http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/ ... .1.027.exe
You can download the software and install along with the SmartNAV software, just uncheck the 'USB Drivers' box when installing.
Then run the TrackIR software, start the mouse emulation app, and run the game.
Please let me know if this makes a difference.
Please note the new TrackIR software will only work with your newer SmartNAV unit.

Re: PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
What can I try with my older unit? Every PC I've used my older unit with has worked fine. Have you had issues with Pentium 4 PC's or PC's using Windows XP with Service Pack 2?
Re: PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
Hello,
You can try version 3.13 of our TrackIR software for the older unit. We have had no reported issues with the older generations of units having issues of newer hardware/software.
Does the newer unit work better with the TrackIR4 software? Were there still crashes?
Have you tried a different extension cable, or eliminating the extension cable, for testing?
Since you mentioned that your computer crashed while using the TV tuner, and that your computer actually locks up, I believe the problem is something having to do with the USB ports/drivers on your new computer and not the SmartNAV units.
Have you installed the USB drivers from the system cd that came with your motherboard? (if there were any)
A few things try...

Re: PC locking up while gaming w/smartNAV
I've always used an extension wire without problems. My PC did not include a system cd, it's an Alienware. I've even sent it to Alienware for testing and it checked out. I dont know if they tested the usb ports though. There were crashes with old and new units.

If the TrackIR4 software works then there is something in the SmartNAV software potentially causing the issue.
If the TrackIR4 software still crashes then it is an issue with the system.
