My TrackIR 4 device has died (and only after 2 wks too)

Post by bladefanman »

Hi there

I have purchased the TrackIR Pro 4 item from an online website here in the UK, which I've been using for just over 2 weeks with great pleasure, but yesterday, when I disconnected it from the USB (to try a webcam device I've just bought) and reinserted it later that day I noticed that the flashing blue light on the TrackIR device was not illuminated anymore (and none of the other LEDs were lit), and when I clicked on the TrackIR software it keeps coming up with 'No device selected'.

I've gone thru all the suggestions that this forum is giving, i.e., reinstalled the software, reinstalled the drivers, done the 30 second thing, tried installing on another PC (not recognised either), gone into Device Manager-->USB Root hub(s) and done the 'save power' uncheck box thing, but nothing is working.

My device will still be under warranty I guess (as I've not even had it a month), but wondered if there was anything I could do first before I had to pay the postage, etc, to send it back to the shop I purchased it from, thus maybe having to wait some time before they could repair it or send a replacement to me.

My serial number of the device is xxxxx. I do not know how to attach the bit of the Setupapi.log that you will be interested in, or how I can attach a screenshot of my TrackIR software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - my airplane is grounded until we find a solution!! (LOL).

cheers
JJ

This tool looks for entries in the users computer related to NaturalPoint USB devices and attempts to fix problems that may have occurred during the windows installation of the devices and USB drivers.

Note that it is necessary to have the relevant NaturalPoint software installed for your hardware in order for this tool to work properly (i.e.
TrackIR 4 software for TrackIR hardware).

http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/ ... RegFix.zip

1 Download the link file

2 Run the application, with the hardware plugged in

3 Remove the hardware from the system

4 Reboot the system

5 Do a clean install of the software

Remove the TrackIR software by doing the following:

. Click "Start"

. Click on the "Control Panel"

. Click "Add/Remove Programs"

. Find "TrackIR" and click "Change/Remove"

. Once launched, it will give the option to completely remove it.

. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint

. Download and reinstall the software from the following location, http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06- ... nuals.html
6 Plug in hardware and install the drivers

Hi Vincent

I've done everything as mentioned, but still no joy I'm afraid.

I have run the NPRegFix exe file, but it comes up with 'No devices detected that needed to be fixed [OK]'.

But, I have continued with everything, rebooted my machine, reinstalled using the software/driver download below, but alas - still nothing showing on the unit - no flashing LEDs and still getting the 'No device detected' when load up TrackIR software.

Incidentally I have attempted fresh install on another PC but I have been unsuccessful too.

It would appear that there is no power reaching the unit anymore.

Unfortunately I would contact the place of purchase for replacement.

ah. that's a shame Vincent.

I've contact the place of purchase and they have agreed to replace it once they're satisfied it is faulty.

I wonder why it's failed completely.

oh well

let's hope the replacement doesn't take too long to arrive.

cheers anyway
