Hi everyone, have just tried to install trackir from my disc, trackir 3, and it comes up with an 'internal failure 0x80040707 msg.
It allows me to proceed only as far as the 'select components' set up screen and doesn't allow me to go any further. Haven't got the trackir plugged in.
Also tried installing the latest software from the naturalpoint website and same thing. Any bright ideas?
Cheers. Leighsky.
Track IR 3 vista 64 bit
Re: Track IR 3 vista 64 bit
You may occasionally come across a Windows error message with the code 0x80040707, and you'll probably find very little documentation on how to handle it. You'll often encounter this error when you're running an installation or upgrade routine from within Windows.
Solution
If you're getting this error message as part of an installation or upgrade routine, here's one of the easiest ways to circumvent the problem:
1. Go to the directory that holds the file for launching the installation (for example, Setup.exe).
2. Right-click on the installation file and select Run As.
3. Uncheck the box that says Protect My Computer And Data From Unauthorized Activity, and click OK.
Alternatively, if you're running this installation from a CD, you may need to simply clean the CD and try the installation again. Another possibility for resolving this error is to run Windows Update on the system before running the installation routine.
If none of those solutions work, try these two links, which provide additional information on the error and ways to overcome it:

Re: Track IR 3 vista 64 bit
Tks for the advice Vincent.. Ive discovered the delights of the 0x80040707 error!!
It seems quite common.. a problem with installshield
Have tried various things.. turned on and off user account, turned off data execution prevention... tried compatibility with xp...
Have also tried this...

this seems to be a common answer, but it doesnt cover vista 64 and Im wary of getting into the registry if its not specifically for that..
InstallShield: Unhandled Exception 0x80040707
Didnt get far with this cause when you right click on the setup theres no run as... option.

ominously.. it seems it also happens with fsx sometimes.. (havent even got to that yet!)

My sense is the best option going seems to be get into the registry??? But the solution suggested doesn't apply to vista 64?
Any more thoughts VERY gratefully received...
