pointer is unstable vertically
pointer is unstable vertically
I've been using smartnav for quite a while now but lately its behaving strangely and becoming hard to use.
The horizontal motion is smooth and normal, but the vertical motion is really.... sticky.
The best way to explain it is, imagine you are moving your head downwards perfectly smoothly, but the mouse pointer goes fast-slow-fast-slow-fast. It sort of jumps, but smoothly.
So if the button I want to click on is within the fast portion of a jump its nearly impossible to click on because the pointer jumps up and down to either side of it.
its not down to other light sources or anything, ive checked.

Hello,
Is there anything at all in the tracking window when the cursor is behaving this way?
Do you have the horizontal and vertical settings the same on the speed control panel?

Re: pointer is unstable vertically
i generally have horizontal speed 11 and vertical 18, but reducing vertical speed still leaves the same problem.
in the tracking window it shows only my silver dot as green and 2 tiny white dots from my glasses. I generally have light filtering on full, which does improve the problem significantly but its still bad. Without light filtering there are sometimes other white marks but they never flicker to green.
The trackIR is about 30 inches away from my head.

Re: pointer is unstable vertically
have you tried adjusting the dot size setting to get it as close as possible to the 'Current Dot' value.
Are you using the latest version of software?
Thanks

Just wanted to follow up and see if you were still having issues?

Re: pointer is unstable vertically
Can you try using one of the larger dots and seeing if the tracking gets better?
I have also asked our main technical support team to have a look at this thread...

Re: pointer is unstable vertically
yes, sorry, still having problems. Its the latest version of the software and I think the dot size is accurate, I have tried experimenting with it
Re: pointer is unstable vertically
Can you take a screen shot of the tracking window and email it to me? I'm curious to see what it looks like.
My email is rick@naturalpoint.com
Thank you!

Re: pointer is unstable vertically
Ok, things went a bit weird. First the tracking window suddenly got lines and diddnt respond or show any movement and it all stopped working, then the tracking window vanished altogether.
I reinstalled it after updating my motherboard nforce4 drivers for a different problem, and it suddenly works perfectly. So it seems the problem was with my motherboard or USB drivers. Thanks for all your help.
