TrackIR USB 2.0 problem (not working high speed)

Post by Jimi-46 »

Hi!
I've had TrackIr over a year now and never had problems. But when I bought a new motherboard (ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe) I am having problems with the Windows always telling me the device would work better if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. All my ports on the motherboard are USB 2.0, and if I connect a USB key to that same port it will work in USB 2.0 mode with no problems, but the tracker always says it not on 2.0.
I can feel the problem if I am running a game with trackIR for a coule of hours. It starts stuttering, almost like the FPS dropped, but it an refresh rate of the trackIR issue and probably the USB data rate beeing not to high.

How can I solve this problem, cause it is driving me crazy.

I am running Win XP sp2 btw.

This not an issue, as the TrackIR is designed as a 1.1 USB device. The warning that you are seeing is a false error that the chipset is reporting.

As far as stuttering goes, after several hours of game play, what gaming applications are you using?

Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?

In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.

Thanks for your fast reply.

I thought trackIR was runing on 2.0, didn't know it was on 1.1.

I am using trackIR with Il-2 Sturmovik game.It is the only game I am playing for a longer period and can't tell you if other games are causing the same problem, but I would guess yes, because Il-2 worked excellent with trackIR everytime.
I will try setting all the power managment of the USB ports to off. I will report as soon as I test it. Thanks again, Vincent.

I have the same problem, using the same mainboard, but today things
got worse! My TrackIR would not start up at all, no green light, no
4 red lights, just blinking blue! I downloaded new drivers, uninstalled, and re-installed the drivers a dozen times, tried 5 or 6 other USB ports, and no joy?!?!?!

Then I checked this forum, tried Vincents tip and voilla!
It works again! Thank you very much, I can fly again!!!

PS: may or may not have made a difference but I also ditched
all my old profiles in the last driver uninstall!?
