Tracking problem (jumping)

Post by Mayday »

Hi,

I just bought a TrackIr4 pro. Installed the lastest software followed the instructions to install the software and the device. Put the Trackir carefully on my monitor and vector clip on a darkcap.
Started up the software. When I go in the software to "View" -->"Tracking" I saw three green dots but when I move a little bit the green dots started flicker/jumping to go red and then to green again. So it didn't track me all the way. First I thought there must be some other reflection what is bothering. I removed all the lights and shining objects in the background but that didn't help eather
I also looked in "Profile" --> "Edit" --> "Head" there a saw my movement but it was jumping around. I tried different settings smoothing, light filter and preferred object size but nothing seems to work. I also searched on the internet to solve the problem but didn't found anything to work.
I also have a laptop so I tried it on there but to my amazing it did work there. I tested in the same enviroment and everything was smooth on my laptop.

The main difference between laptop and my desktop.

Desktop
Pentium 4 3,0 GHZ
Windows XP (prefessional) without service pack 2
USB 1.1

Laptop
Windows xp (Home)with service pack 3
Intel Celeron 1,5 Ghz
USb 1.1 (maybe USB 2.0 not sure)

Can it be that TrackIr 4 pro needs service pack 2 or is this not the case? (Can't test this because my originel cd is lost.) Or is my USB 1.1 connection not good enough. Or something else

Can anybody help me.

Thank you very much

1.1 is just fine.

I would suggest doing a clean install of the software.

Remove the TrackIR software by doing the following:
a. Click "Start"
b. Click on the "Control Panel"
c. Click "Add/Remove Programs"
d. Find "TrackIR" and click "Change/Remove"
e. Once launched it will give the option to completely remove it.
f. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint
g. Download and reinstall the software from the following location,

I tried a clean install as you recommanded. At first is seems to work for me but after restarting my computer the jumping problem was back again. Tried another clean install (maybe totally of 5 times) but this time it didn't work out for me.

Do you have any other suggestions?

I'm also having a problem getting TrackIR to work on my new Vista and XP (Service Pack 3) installations. I'm not sure if it's a motherboard driver problem, (780i FTW) or if it's a Service Pack 3 problem.

Track IR doesn't seem to recognize any key presses I give it, to center, turn it on/off, etc. I think if I could center, it would work ok?

So it is only a desktop issue?

Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed?

Latest bios update?

Do you have a USB hub, with it's own power supply, you can try using?
