As of yesterday, I am the proud owner of a TrackIR Pro 4. I ordered my TrackIR with the TrackClip Pro (the older, vector style headset attachment also came in the box.)
After having tested both input devices, am I the only one who actually likes the older vector input "hat attachment" better?
First of all, every one of my headsets has the microphone on the right side (coincidence). So I have to run the wire from the TrackClip pro across the top of the headset and down the other side so that both wires run together. I used electrical tape to hold the wires together.
In addition, the placement on the side of the headset means that everytime I touch or adjust my headset in the slightest (by grabbing them in the natural position - the ears) I move the TrackClip Pro's swivel arms. A minor annoyance, but it makes my point.
The older vector hardware, on the other hand, clips nicely to the top of my headset and remains in place even when I have to pull the headphones off my ear to discover what's new on my "honey do" list.
The only problem with the vector piece is that my big bobo head sometimes obstructs the lower-two reflective pads when I look up. I'm trying to find different heights at which to mount the "camera" to help prevent this. (any additional information ways to deal with this would be highly appreciated!)
I just wanted to toss my two cents into the ring. I love the concept behind the new TrackClip Pro, but for now I think it's a design that needs a little more consideration.
Thank you, NaturalPoint, for shipping the older style headset in the box!
