I just got the SmartNav 4 AT and am for the most part very pleased with it. Currently I am using a ring on my finger to point because my monitor is up too high for me to use my head. However, I'm noticing something that might or might not be odd. I don't have a lot of steadiness in my arm sometimes, so this may be operator error, but:
I've been keeping the cursor setting on Relative since that was the default. On that setting, however, I found it very difficult to cover the whole area of my screen -- my monitor is 19 inches. I always seemed to go out of the range of the tracking, but keeping within the range didn't get me to the upper or lower corners of my screen either. Just out of curiosity, I switched the setting to Absolute and, using the exact same motions as far as I can tell, I can now cover the area of my screen. The only problem is that the Absolute setting makes it a lot harder for me to pause the cursor over an object or keyboard key I want to dwell click on.I tried messing with the Smoothness/responsiveness continuum but it didn't seem to do much. With the Relative setting, as difficult as it was to traverse the screen, I could at least pause over things. Does the Relative setting work better with small monitors or something? I think I'm going to have to keep using Absolute to get to things, but it's very hard to click on them in Absolute.

It should change the speed, or motion. When you load the different modes, are the speed and smothiong options also changing?
Have you tried just adjusting the speed setting?
