Only getting 4DOF

Post by Smeglor »

I followed the instructions on the MiG Alley page, including altering bdg.txt to turn TRACKIR6DOF on. However, in the game, I'm only seeing panning, tilting, and zooming. Leaning to the sides or raising/lowering my head isn't doing anything. All axes are enabled and the head preview in trackir shows all proper movement (and everything works fine in FSX and DiRT).

Any ideas?

You have been editing the Combat flight profile?

Looking at the tracking screen, what do you see?

Actually I copied the default profile to make one especially for MiG Alley (I noticed that the roll was inverted, so I needed a custom profile to invert it). Everything is enabled and when I turn on the head preview, it behaves like it should.

Aha, I think I found the answer. This is from the readme that came with BDG 0.85F:

-----------------

TrackIR Vector Support
MiG now supports 4 out of the 6 axis offered by the vector expansion - pitch/yaw/roll and the z (fore/back) axis, which controls the view FOV. You need to enable the TRACKIR and TRACKIR6DOF switches in the bdg.txt for this to work. If you do not own the vector expansion, only enable TRACKIR. If you disable TrackIR while in-game, or move the dot out of the tracker's field of view, the game will revert view control back to the keyboard/mouse (depending on your controller settings).

-----------------

So I think the only problem is that the TrackIR games list shouldn't show X and Y. ;-)

And while we're on the subject of updating the TrackIR web site, the instructions to get 4DOF working aren't quite right. You're missing a step. BDG version 0.85F needs to be installed. The 0.85F2 being linked on the TrackIR site is just a replacement .exe for Windows 98/ME users and is only of use if you first install 0.85F.

I found a link to the missing file (BDG_MiGAlley_0.85F.rar) here: http://213.73.82.62/~retro/MA/085/README.html

I suppose there's so very few people who need this information - I'm in the rare situation of just getting TrackIR and having had MiG Alley sitting in my CD case forever, never having really played it.

Hope that helps!
