Passive /active markers together?

Post by fxrtst »

I am building an active marker suit. I see in arena where i can turn off the IR ring around the cameras for use with active markers, but if I add a prop..say a gun prop..can I place reflective balls on it and turn the IR on the cameras back on for use with the prop? Kinda a passive/active hybrid?

Thanks,

Will

Hi Will,

you are building up an active marker suit!?
A while ago I too made some experiments with an active marker setup with different IR LEDs.
Due to a lot of work I got stuck searching for an optimal attachment for the cabeling and the LEDs.
How did you realize the fixation of the active markers on the suit? What kind of LED do you use? .... lots of questions. Perhaps you can give me some tips.

Thx, Sven

Sven,

I am waiting for a few last parts to arrive via mail. But, should go together quickly after they arrive. I am using the IR LED's from Natural Points website. They are ultrawide angle. I made a passive suit that I attached the reflector balls with velcro on these pegs. I will simply remove the reflectors and replace with the IR LEDS. It will be powered by a 12 v battery and last for about an hour before having to change out the batteries. Wrist, waist, ankles, and neck wires are detachable via a connector at those points for de-robing purposes. I can send you pictures of the final suit when completed. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Hi Will,

a picture of your final suit would be great!
Do you use a batterypack fixed on the suit, or a sperate battery connected via cabeling?

Thanks for your response!

I'm gonna try battery pack connected (8 x 1.5 AA batteries=12v) If they get drained fast might attach a cable and an AC adapter. Building today (Sunday), Hope to have it done by Monday.

Hi Will,

did you succeed with your active suit? 8 AA batteries are not that big in size. You should cary them in a pack with the suit. What is the overall load of the LEDs of your configuration. By the way do you use a 38 marker setup?

Much success in the assembly of the parts. 34 LED's, resisters and battery pack. Fired up the LED's and they work great. I am applying to the suit this holiday weekend. I am using a base that I glued them to and then applying velcro to those for attachment. With this set up I can remove the wiring rig and wash the suit, or attach to another suit. Pics coming soon.
