Currently 3D Max does not have streaming Expression support.

c3d export from Arena, and import into Max?

What file formats can be imported to Max?

Does it have support for facial tracking?

I work with and support the NaturalPoint product line, I'm not that familiar with 3rd party applications.

A good place to ask might be on the Autodesk Max forums. Users there might be able to give feedback about the best way to get face mocap data into Max and potentially their own workflows.

I'm not aware of any native facial motion capture capabilities in Max, at least not 2008 which is what I use. In itself, Max only has the capability of importing csm, bvh and bip as "motion capture" files. And all of these are tied to the max biped.

All the facial animation I've seen in Max is keyframed and depends on morph targets, bone rigs, etc.

A 3rd party plugin might work, such as CAT, but I couldn't tell you for sure

Now, you might be able to bring in data via Motionbuilder thru the fbx file format, I've done that for bone rigs, but never for facial animation.

Bryan,
Thanks for the info. Yes I used cat on my bvh body test and it worked great. I still used biped to bring the bvh file in to max because it just did a better job than cat then I saved it as a .bip then used cats same plug in to apply the .bip file to the cat rig and it worked great. Nothing compaired to the power of motion builder. I am now starting to day doing test with motion builder to see what I can do to cram this face motion capture into max. Again I am real new to this mocap and max thing I hope it is possible to do at this point. I am not sure if it is but I will find out in the next couple of days. I will let you know how it goes. Learning curve here I come!!!

I was able to get the .c3d motion capture in to Max by use of motion builder.
