FSX fine for a while, then hangs.

Post by Guil »

Hello,

After reviewing all the TrackIR 4 posts relating to problems with FSX mine seems somewhat different.

I am running Vista 64 and FSX with SP1, as well as the latest TrackIR software, as I just got, installed, and updated TrackIR two weeks ago. I had previously rolled back FSX to SP1 from SP2 as some of my add-on aircraft did not display properly with SP2.

FSX starts out fine, with all TrackIR functions working well, but after 5 or 10 minutes, FSX hangs completely and I have to shut it down through Task Manager. At first this seemed to only be when switching to an external view, but has since happened when in VC view as well.

Any ideas, as currently all I can fly is the Ka-50 Black Shark, and once in a while it would be nice to fly and only worry about weather, not SAM`s!

Any other add-ons installed for FSX?

Any software running in the background?

Try a clean install of the software?

Remove the TrackIR software by doing the following:
a. Click "Start"
b. Click on the "Control Panel"
c. Click "Add/Remove Programs"
d. Find "TrackIR" and click "Change/Remove"
e. Once launched it will give the option to completely remove it.
f. Delete the NaturalPoint folder at the following location, C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint
g. Download and reinstall the software from the following location,

Since my last post I have made lots of changes to FSX, but the problem persists. Although I had the current TrackIR software I downloaded it again, followed the steps above, and reinstalled. I also uninstalled and reinstalled FSX, updated video drivers, etc.

As FSX still hung/crashed everytime, and I assumed it could be related to not updating to SP2, I purchased FSX Acceleration, uninstalled everything again, and reinstalled FSX and FSX Acceleration.

I did not install any of my add-ons for FSX (Ultimate Terrain, various aircraft, etc.) in an attempt to isolate the problem. Again, previous to installing TrackIR, with all the above noted add-ons, FSX ran fine and never crashed. Now it hangs at some point in every flight and I have to exit by Task Manager.

Any additional thoughts, or is there another forum I should try?

OK, so it is working fine with BlackShark, but issues with FSX?

Does FSX crash, when the TrackIR software is not running?
