Just purchased one of these. Was wondering how/where i would position the tir, or is it not practical to use, cause you got to be far away.
Has anyone managed a solution ?
TIS with a 42" HD monitor
Re: TIS with a 42" HD monitor
Ideal distance is 2-6 feet

3.5 Desktop, flatpanel and laptop hardware placement
Setting up the TrackIR unit on either a desktop or laptop is quick and easy.
3.5.1 CRT Placement
Set the TrackIR on top of your monitor and point the unit towards your head or face (see picture below).
3.5.2 Placing the TrackIR
Using the mounting base, you can secure the TrackIR to any surface, including laptop and flat panel screens. You now can place the TrackIR anywhere and not have to worry about sticky tape or any kind of clip to hold it into place.
Twist the base around so that the legs are facing upwards.
Turn the base so that the legs are in front of the device with 1 stable leg in the back, it will look like a 'T' shape.
:
Now Position the TrackIR where you want it to stay, and your done!
NOTE : It is best to fully install the software and test the TrackIR a bit before deciding where to place the TrackIR. This way, you can see your position in the TrackIR's tracking window while positioning the device.

Re: TIS with a 42" HD monitor
Hi Fish,
As Vincent noted, there are instructions in the manual that offer guidelines on mounting your TrackIR to various surfaces. As long as you are within the 2-6 feet that he mentioned, you should be OK. Because large screen displays are bigger than standard desktop monitors, mounting your TrackIR on the top might cause it to be higher above your head than generally recommended. To address this, you should tilt the unit so its view is centered on the TrackClip/TrackClip PRO when looking at the Tracking screen in the software.
If this is too severe of an angle, you can alternately mount the TrackIR on the side of your monitor, underneath the monitor, or even behind your head.
If you do mount the camera behind your head, you will need to reverse the TrackClip so it points behind you at the unit and invert the Pitch, Roll, X, and Z axes in the software.
Mounting the camera on its side will require adjusting the camera rotation accordingly in the software.
