Tracking goes haywire after some time

I have a brand new TrackIR 5 with the Track Clip Pro and the final release of v5 software. The software tracks fine for awhile, but then goes crazy and my virtual "head" becomes lost and no longer tracks. Pressing the center key brings it back to the center point and again works for a bit before losing its tracking accuracy. It is still "tracking" as there is movement, but the movement does not correspond to my head movement.
I have used the Camera mode to ensure that only the Track Clip Pro tracking points are detected by the camera - despite that they are often red unless I move my head. There are no other detected infrared items. I have a high-backed black chair, so don't think it is catching anything behind me.
I moved the camera so it is off-center on my monitor, and have aligned my Track Clip Pro with the camera so that the Camera mode shows the Track Clip Pro in the center of the four-square grid. However, it is only in the top half of the grid even if I move my monitor to its highest or lowest position. I don't know if this is of any consequence.
Is this indicative of a defective camera or what other causes are there to the problem. It seems strange that it works for a bit before going crazy.
Other information - running Windows 7 RC1 and have the camera plugged directly into the motherboard USB port, so no hub.
