Hi,
Im attempting to trouble shoot my computer, it freezes up one to three times daily. It is a normal thinkpad laptop in every way except because of my disabilities constantly runs smartnav 4, and vs communicator software (assistive stuff, on screen keyboard, ir remote control etc ), and a tira2 ir sending unit. Here is the rub the freeze ups occur on any machine I setup this way (including two xp laptops, and my wifes vista machine)! The smartnav and tira2 connect directly to an open usb port on the machines.
So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled vs communicator, purchased a new tira2 and manually removed and reinstalled its drivers. No luck. So now Im looking at smartnav with suspicion. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Tom
My machine freezes up
Re: My machine freezes up
Have you tried turn off any kind of power save feature for your USB ports?
In the "Device Manager" you can right click the "USB Root Hub"(s), that show, and then select properties. On the power management tab, uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the USB port to save power (i.e. uncheck the box). Sometimes that has an impact on the connectivity of the devices.
Latest motherboard bios/chipset drivers installed?
Any other software running down by the clock, on the task bar?
