Views abruptly snap and pop

I use the latest TrackIR 5 software on the TrackIR 4 Pro headclip. I've had the unit for more than two years. It's been working great until yesterday. I'm running almost exclusively racing games now, and in every one, at random moments, the TrackIR view suddenly pops or jumps radically off angle. I deleted the software and reinstalled. Same problem, disrupting nearly every game.

I haven't otherwise changed anything: camera position is the same as usual. I've unplugged and re-plugged the unit several times. No effect.

I did notice yesterday some erratic on-off behavior with the green and blue lights on the unit. Any idea what this is? Is the unit just dying?

When looking at the camera screen, within the 5.0 software, do you see more than 3 green objects, any red or gray?

Are the 3 points centered within the camera view?

How far away from the camera are you located?

Have you tried washing the metal clip, with a little warm soapy water?
