Strange auto-right click on startup

Post by headsup »

When I double click the SmartNav icon on my desktop to start the application, the app starts up paused (setup as Key Activated using F12).

Before I do a single thing it also automatically does one of the following:

A) acts like a right-click was done on the SmartNav icon that I just double-clicked to start the app (thus opening up it's context menu)

OR

B) acts like I'm dragging the SmartNav icon

If A) occurs then when I left-click using my mouse it behaves like a right-click until I right-click the desktop with my mouse. Very strange.

If B) occurs then again I right-click on an empty part of my desktop followed by a left-click to cancel dragging the SmartNav icon.

One of these two odd behaviors occurs whether or not I have a switch plugged in.

For even more weirdness, when I do have a footswitch plugged directly into the device, it does nothing when I left-click, even though I have it mapped to left-click. I've tried mapping the left switch to all of the other options just to see if any of them will work. Well the only one that does is right-click. That's right - the only option I can get the left switch to execute is a right-click. Same thing happens if I plug into the left cable of the Y adapter, or plug directly into the SmartNav.

I'm running Windows XP Pro with SP 2 on a Dell Latitude laptop. When I say mouse above it's really the built-in touchpad with buttons on the laptop.

I'm using the latest version of NaturalPoint software downloaded and installed today. I only just installed this product for the first time today, so I'm a new user.

I have a NaturalPoint AT 4 purchased used off eBay with a single Kinesis switch.

Any help much much much appreciated. I have bad tendinosis in both arms.

Do you have the Dwell clicking toolbar turned on as well?

Are you using any on-screen keyboard, or keyboard software?

No dwell clicking and no on-screen keyboard.

Oh yeah, and I should add that I tried this on my wife's laptop which is a different model from mine and runs Windows 7 Home Edition and it behaves the same strange way there too.

I also installed XP Service Pack 3 to see if that would help but it didn't. I was on SP 2 when I first installed.

Is double click assist turned on, in the software?

Mouse delay turned on in the application?

Double-click assist = off
Mouse override delay = 1 second

Try setting the mouse delay to 0?

Hot keys all enabled?

Any set to sticky?

Ptoblem still happens with Mouse Override Delay=0. The Move hotkey is the only one enabled. There is no Sticky checkbox for it. The Pause hotkey Sticky checkbox is checked but its Enable checkbox is not checked (its greyed out).
