"Can't find MSFS2002"
"Can't find MSFS2002"
Just acquired your TrackIR. Downloaded and installed the 1.3 software from your site first; cursor tracking works just fine on desktop, so the hardware setup is fine. However, when I click on the MSFS2002 button on the setup page, it asks me if I want to install MSFS2002 headtracking; I click yes, and then get the error message that it can't find that particular C:file it's looking for, and something about how I will have to locate that file myself. Now my harddrive/local file is actually labeled "D" thanks to some swell telephone tech support from dell, and so I'm unable to install the FS2002 compatibility program. In FS2002, the TrackIR just moves a cursor around, not my field of view. How do I install this program when it only looks for a "C" drive, that in my case is a "D" drive?
Re: "Can't find MSFS2002"
hello,
when FS2002 isnt installed in the default folder, trackIR software will ask u to locate it yourself.
its important that you choose the FS2002/modules folder. (trackir will copy a file called trackir.dll into that folder).
you have to select e.g
D:\microsoft games\FS2002\Modules
or whatever it is on your computer. Hope i could help.

Re: "Can't find MSFS2002"
Thanks....when I get the error message it says "could not locate c:microsoftflight simulator/modules" and my only option is to click "okay"; then I have another message that says "please locate c:microsoftflightsimulator/modules" and again my only option is "okay"; I can't find a way to copy or install the TrackIR .dll file into my d:microsoft/FS2002/modules folder, even though I have no trouble "finding" the folder myself. How can I make the TrackIR software "find" it? The error messages don't give me a browse menu to expand my program files and locate the modules folder it wants; my only option is to click "okay", and then its back to the TrackIR settings window. In fact, now when I click on FS2002, it doesn't even ask me if I want to install the MS2002 headtracker software; now nothing happens. But there's still no TrackIR.dll file in my microsoft FS2002 modules folder, and I'm still not able to use it. Hope I'm being clear...Thanks for your help!
Re: "Can't find MSFS2002"
Hello:
If it can't find the default folder then it will pop up a window allowing for the selection of the proper folder. If this window isn't showing then something is wrong.
Please follow these direct edit instructions to override the automatic window menu:
- Close our program
- copy trackir.dll file that is in our directory to Modules folder under MSFS2002 (replace if necessary, it expects it to be under the default install location)
- go to start menu
- run "regedit"
- go to key HKEY_Current_User\software\NaturalPoint\NaturalPoint\V1.21 GX (or current version)
- on right side find key MSFSInstalled
- click on key and edit data value to be "1"
- if MSFS2002 is not in default location, edit registry key below MSFSInstalled to reflect location
- click okay and close out regedit
- start NaturalPoint program and select MSFS2002 Mode
- Hit F8 or whatever Mode hotkey you have defined and MSFS2002 text should turn red and cursor will stop moving.
- Enter MSFS2002 game in Virtual Cockpit mode
- Hit F12 or whatever your Center Hotkey is defined as and it will center your view
- Have fun

Re: "Can't find MSFS2002"
Okay...in the end, I couldn't find the FS2002 .dll in the regedit; a clean install solved the problem of getting that program on my system. But now another problem....I had rigged my TrackIR upside down, just above and in front of my monitor. Under the cursor settings, I specified that the unit was upside down, but in FS2002, all movement is inverted; so I also checked the invert x and y options, but still no luck. So, I rearranged the hardware right side up on top of my monitor, unchecked all of the options I described above, and still...every motion results in the view tracking in the complete opposite direction. I've tried multiple options, but it seems no matter what, FS2002 is running in inverse. I also tried to find some sort of control setting in FS2002 itself to "invert" mouseview, but there was no such option. So again, a clean install of the drivers and hardware, this time with the TrackIR upright at the time I plugged in the USB cable. Would having the unit upside down at the time I installed it cause this? Does the FS2002 .dll allow you to have your TrackIR upside down or does it override the custom settings I chose and assume the TrackIR is right-side-up? In any event, it's working well now (right-side-up), with good effect!
