Wand Calibration Issue

Post by DHyland »

Hi forum members,

We've just aquired a 24 S250e system

We have the 3 marker optiwand. With the wand came a note stating that for wanding we should set the size to 500mm instead of the default 400mm.
The wand is a 500mm wand so this makes sense

The problem:
When i have the 'Wand Aquisition' > 'Wand Length' set to 500mm the cameras don't seem to pick up the wand properly, only very bitty green lines. When i set it to 400mm, it picks up the wand and the green lines seem more solid (Although not completley)
Could this be related to my other problem?

My other problem:
After calibration (400mm) I have to set the skeleton size to 5'
in order to fit the arena actor model properly even though my real actor is 6'.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Releases of ARENA prior to 1.7.2 will require manual editing of the wand acquisition setting. In addition to setting the overall length to 500 mm, you'll need to set the center distance to 175 mm as well.

Or, if you have a current license for ARENA, you can upgrade to 1.7.2 when it is released and enter your wand choice at the wand selection prompt during calibration. This will automate the process for you.

Regarding the skeleton scaling issue--that's likely tied to calibrating with the 500 mm wand, but with the wand acquisition set to 400 mm. It will still calibrate well, but the algorithm will scale the volume improperly. Behavior like what you're describing is to be expected in that case. It's important to calibrate with the wand size set accurately, so the algorithm can reliably determine the volume's scaling.

Thanks Mike,

I've set the wand size to 500mm and the center distance to 175mm and now the wand is getting picked up by the cameras :)

When wanding, should i expect the green wanding lines to be a bit broken in visual terms, like sticks or should i expect them to be unbroken smooth lines? (I'm getting the stick version)

Thanks for your help,

Darren.

Ideally, it should be unbroken smooth lines when it is tracking a wand. There are some instances where we see the "matchstick" lines, and while it doesn't seem to effect calibration, we are investigating the cause.
