Trouble when looking down

Post by skipph »

I am using Trackir 5 with FSX exclusively. The problem area for me with TrackIR is when I go from looking straight ahead in the cockpit to looking down at the gauges and pedals, the screen jumps around and I end looking backwards or in some other direction other than the down position. If I look up or to the sides, there is no problem everything is smooth and very manageable. Any thoughts as to what I have to adjust to make looking down a smooth response? Skip. I have even tried the Seth presets with the same results.

You can go to the advanced settings section of TrackIR, then adjust the pitch graph. Uncheck mirror to unlink looking up and down, then adjust the right side of the graph so it's more pronounced. The breaking is occuring when TrackIR loses sight of one of your markers, so you need to make looking down a bit more responsive.

Once again I have the opposite problem: I start TrackIR (latest 5 version) and center the view on screen, camera view open. I see 3 green lights indicating my Proclip is working correctly and the 3 points are centered on the graph and aligned vertically. I can look to either side and down, no problem. But every other time I open TrackIR I cannot look up more than about 10 degrees on the graph centered on the vertical axis. Movement stops and the 3 points in camera view turn red. I look back down or to the side, TrackIr works again. I can also look to the side and then up all the way vertically to 90 degrees but as soon as I turn back to center TIR cuts out and the camera view points show red. After I start FSX I get the same limitation to looking up. Sometimes after maybe 1/2 hour of flight I can then look up without problem. Is there a variation of your recommendation to skipph that will resolve this?

Can you take a screenshot and post it here of your camera view when sitting completely neutral? when looking up enough to make it turn red?

Hi Mike,
My bad, I found my problem. I changed to a full screen camera view and saw immediately what was happening: when I tilted my head up the #3 IR source at the bottom was merging with #2 because of the angle, blocking the IR input and limiting how far I could "look up."
This was my problem and I have now taken it into account for my settings and everything is working as it should.
I really enjoy TrackIr and my compliments to you for software "well done." Sorry to bother you.

Not a problem. It may help to adjust the tilt of your hat, too, if you need that higher range of motion. Slightly lowering the tilt of your hat on your head can increase the upward pitch range.

Thanks for the tips. I'm using TrackClipPro, but I found the same principles apply to keep the IR points correctly aligned.
