The tracking is fine. It's the PC freezing while gaming with unit on is the issue. New unit or not.

The trackir software v3.13 won't run my older unit. Still froze with new Smartnav. I have returned my newer unit using the 30 day money back trial. I'll be trying other options for gaming. How will I know when you've recieved the unit back? Thanks for your help. Chris

Can I install the trackIR software while my old unit is connected?

I've always used an extension wire without problems. My PC did not include a system cd, it's an Alienware. I've even sent it to Alienware for testing and it checked out. I dont know if they tested the usb ports though. There were crashes with old and new units.

What can I try with my older unit? Every PC I've used my older unit with has worked fine. Have you had issues with Pentium 4 PC's or PC's using Windows XP with Service Pack 2?

I use a 6ft USB extension cable and I have version 3.2 with the new Smartnav. I was using version 2.1 with my old unit. I'll check the serial number.
