This snapping back to default is an issue, I cannot accept at the moment. So for me, TrackIR is useless in FSX. TrackIR was optimal with FS9 but is now MUCH worser in FSX.
Adjusting set location is a must with cockpits with overhead-panel, the momentary behaviour is not acceptable.
So I think it's up to NaturalPoint to search with MS for a solution.
Also this strange behaviour with the new drivers when you look up and down (reported before) must be changed.

I guess a different way to explain is that with FSX you can't set a "baseline" from which to view with TIR. An example. In FS9 after my favorite aircraft loads, using the standard key combinations, I move my view up 3 notches and forward 3 notches. (simulates moving seat up and forward) That's where the view stays. From there I can look around, forward, up, down etc but it is all from the new location. In FSX there is no setting the baseline. You are where you are. Don't like it tough! You sit here. Eat your greenbeans. (sorry got carried away) As you mention, if you pause the TIR then you can "freely move about the cabin" Once unpaused, back you go.

OK, to answer some of the questions and comments.

1 - As for the seat position "issue". Currently, I have forwarded the information on to Microsoft but I suspect that it isn't a high priority change on the list. I know of several other issues that are being worked on, along with the updates for DX10 and Vista so any changes concerning the seat position are doubtful.

2 - As for the look up/down "issue". Are you referring to the increase in head movement in the pitch position?

Part of this is tied into the new positioning of the base centerline for the head movement. Before it was based on the center point located in the middle of your head, now it is located at the neck to mimic the more natural head movement. This has entailed a slight increase in response to your head tracking, especially in the pitch axis.

Actually, there is a way to assign new seat positions that you can cycle through. The head tracker will move relative to those fixed spots. Requires a bit of editing of the aircraft.cfg file. I added a back seat to the carenado mentor without too much difficulty.

This doesn't address the issue of moving through the cockpit and using the head tracker to adjust the view relative to the last achieved position though.

I think the whole head tracker community (not just TrackIR) would benefit from a change to the way head trackers work with the spot views. Since TrackIR has already suggested it to Microsoft, maybe a few emails from the rest of us would be the best followup.
