TrackIR 5 Freezes
TrackIR 5 Freezes
Hello
For a couple of months now, I'm running into this very annoying problem:
Running Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, TrackIR 5 randomly freezes when paused or when not detecting the TrackClip.
The software is completely frozen en unresponsive. It will not unpause (or pause when this happens with the unit unpaused) and it will not track anything. The LED's on the device also don't change status.
The only way I've been able to get it to respond again, is to quit the TrackIR application completely (the LEDs STILL don't change),
and restart it again (now the LEDs change again, and the unit starts tracking again). But since MFSFS2024 doens't trigger detection in TrackIR 5 when it's already running, I'm left to complete the flight without TrackIR.
This is extremely annoying and sometimes leaves me with a completely unusable camera position in game.
Is there a known fix for this problem? I'd love to get this solved!

Re: TrackIR 5 Freezes
Hi Tyrion,
Is your TrackIR connected directly to a USB port on your motherboard? We do not recommend using USB hubs or extenders. You may also need to modify your computer's settings to ensure that the computer isn't turning off power to the USB port:
1. Right click on the start menu and select Device Manager.
2. Locate Universal Serial Bus controllers.
3. For each item in this list with the word “hub” in its name, double click on the item and go to the Power Management tab.
4. Uncheck the option “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and press OK.
5. Repeat for all USB hub devices.
6. Restart the computer.
If that didn't resolve the issue, follow these steps
1. Open Control Panel and navigate to Control Panel
2. Select All Control Panel Items
3. Open Power Options.
4. Click "Change plan settings."
5. Click "Change advanced power settings."
6. Find USB settings > USB selective suspend setting in the list, and ensure that it is set to disabled.
7. Press OK and reboot your computer.
Kind Regards,

Re: TrackIR 5 Freezes
Thanks for the reply, I'll try that!
My TrackIR is indeed plugged into a hub (built into my display) because I ran out of USB port on the motherboard.

Re: TrackIR 5 Freezes
I am also having the same problems after getting a new motherboard/processor combination. Track IR freezes on me, so I followed the advice above and had a great 2.5 hour flight yesterday (MSFS 2020). When I went to fly again today, it froze multiple times before I could even get my flight started. This is getting frustrating - something is causing the software to crash. I'm using both as administrator and turned off all USB hub auto power off in device manager.

Hello mcritzman,
Would you please share any details about the error message you are getting when the software crashes? You might be able to find details about the affected .dll or process by looking in Windows Event Viewer.

Re: TrackIR 5 Freezes
I got a new motherboard and processor. Gigabyte B550 Eagle Wifi 6 (AM4)/AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. I also re-installed Windows 11 and my system today since the BIOS was recognizing all my internal drives as removable, so I switched them to RAID. The process crashed again before I could start my flight. Something is killing the program. This is preventing me from using MSFS 2020, and has been ever since I upgraded. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: TrackIR 5 Freezes
Hi mcritzman,
I would make sure you have updated your graphics card driver as sometimes this error can be related to a graphics card issue. I would also make sure you have the correct versions of the C++ Redistributables.
For 5.4.2, you may need this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=40784
For 5.5.3, you will need this one: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/w ... w=msvc-170
Kind Regards,

Re: TrackIR 5 Freezes
I already had the latest graphic card driver and installed the C++ redistributables. I still got the same crash.
